Wow y'all, I can’t believe I’ve been on this earth for 29 years! Shoutout to Me! My 20s have been a wild and fun rollercoaster, to say the least. Life has taught me PLENTY of lessons and I’m going to give you some ways to live out your 20s the best way possible. What better way to end September?
Experience often
Rule #1 in life is to always experience. Experience people. Experience new situations. Step our your comfort zone and do things you never done. You only live once so make it count.
Do Things that you Love
It’s imperative we do things we love because it feeds our soul and keeps us going everyday.
Travel and Experience New Cultures
Truly wish I could live my life out traveling. While you’re young, make time to not only travel but take the time to learn other cultures. You’ll be surprised by how much it will teach you. Do this at least once per season if you can.
Videos and Pictures are a MUST
Take the picture. Press record for that video. Memories are the only thing we can hold on to and sometimes we never know the value of a moment until it’s all we have.
Be absolutely insane about your dreams
Nobody is going to go hard for you more than YOU
Stop Thinking you’re Getting Old!
I truly get annoyed when people act like being in your late 20s is the end of it all. This is the beginning. The crème de la crème.
When You Look Good, You Feel Good.
Ladies, wear those heels. I love wearing heels y’all. It elevates any outfit. Dress up! When you look good, you feel even better. When you feel good, you do good.
Scrapbook Important Memories
Practice Self Care
Important to always prioritize your own self care because it will pay off in the long run.
Use Reward Apps/Programs
Trust me, food apps are the best. Who doesnt love discounts, free food, and birthday gift?
Be Okay with Failing
Our 20s is our first glimpse of adulthood. It’s 100% fine to have a couple setbacks. What did Aaliyah say? Dust yourself off and try again.
Keep the Inner Child in You
I know it can sound childish but the inner child in you keeps you forever young so never let go of that part of you.
FEEL
Life is worth feeling but NEVER become the emotion. Allow yourself to witness and embrace it never let it consume you.
Comparison is the Thief of Joy
One of my favorite quotes ever, I lived by it my whole 20s. You have to focus on everything you are rather than everything you’re not.
Have a You vs. You Mindset.
Another quote I live by. It’s always been Me vs. Me. Your only competition should be your potential.
Maktub
May be cliche but if you read The Alchemist then you may get where I’m coming from. Maktub in Arabic means “it is written”. I don’t believe a lot of things in life are coincidences. Some things are just written in the stars for us.
Say ‘No’ More Often
It’ll help you in the long run, trust.
Community is Key
Community is super important to me. I think I’ve create a beautiful, supporting, and loving community within my lifetime and its what keeps me going every single day. Community is what helps bring people together and creates a sense of belonging. Find your people and keep them close!
Pour into People as you Would Want for Yourself
Face your Fears
Do things you’re scared of! Do things alone! Feel the fear and attack it!
Spoil Yourself
Take yourself out. Pat yourself on the back. Money comes and goes so do something nice for yourself every now and then.
See Everything Through
I know it’s easier said than done but see things through. So many lessons are inside of everything we do!
Journal Everything
Goals. Thoughts. Emotions. Journal everything. Even if you don’t tackle everything on it, it’s always nice to look back on things and connect the dots.
Be a Good Person
Nothing more, nothing less
Check in on your Loved Ones
As we get older we sometime grow distant from our loved ones but always make sure you create times and space for your loved ones. You never know how much it means to someone.
Be Intentional
Be intentional in your work, your future, family and friends, the way you communicate. Just be intentional in life! You’ll thank yourself later for doing it.
Have Fun with Life
Prioritize your Health
I know sometimes we let things slip away but we are not getting any younger so it’s a MUST to prioritize your health.
Smile. Be happy.
The last advice that I feel is imperative is to smile. Be happy you’ve made it this far. There is always a reason to smile so be sure to find it.
So yes, Cheers to 29. I really hope you guys find a good gem in here. As I reflect on my 20s I feel that I’ve accomplished a lot. I’ve loved, lost, failed, and won. Most importantly, I've came out on top. While I still have one last year in my 20s, this year I have something to prove to myself and I can’t wait to keep leveling up. I’ve added a slideshow of all my birthdays from the 20-29. Which is your favorite?
